The Saints have had a busy week as we have reached the midway point of the NFL season.

They cut cornerback Brian Dixon as well as Defensive end Chris McCain . The biggest news was the release of defensive tackle  John Jenkins.

A former third-round pick, John Jenkins started 12 games last season but saw his playing time dwindle this year. He’s only appeared in 33 percent of the defensive snaps this season and was inactive for last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The open roster spot was filled with free agent linebacker Sam Barrington, who has spent time with the Chiefs and Packers.

The signing of Barrington, 26, provides depth at the linebacker position and comes days after the Saints placed James Laurinaitis (quad) on injured reserve.

Coach Sean Payton confirmed the signing of Barrington during a Wednesday morning conference call, adding the addition of the linebacker will help on special teams.

Also as the  Saints prepare for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, they signed a player who was a part of last season’s Super Bowl championship.

Saints coach Sean Payton said Wednesday the team added safety Shiloh Keo, whom the Broncos cut two weeks ago.
